Hi guys
I have wanted to start a blog about sewing and reviewing patterns for ages now. I’ve been reading some amazing ones, and so helpful to learn new techniques!
This blog is centered around curvy sewing, but also some crafting ideas and mini sews. Most posts involve references to wine and the inspiration. I have 2 small children who you may see featured on here – they love to help sew and are mostly #whyidrink #whyicanthavenicethings but lovable all the same. You may see some of my husbandit (love you honey) – he’s the one who barricades the door so I can sew in peace, one of the many reasons I love him!
I’m a New Zealander born and bred and currently live in the Bay of Plenty, it’s a gorgeous part of the world and we love it. I work full time in a highly stressful role, so sewing is my escape from the hustle and bustle.
Sewing has freed me from the confines of ‘body normality’ as I like to call it. I can’t describe all the years I felt like my body wasn’t good enough and all of the flaws kept me up at night worrying about how I would lose weight, hide my ‘flaws’ or just generally hide from the world. It took a lot of years of sewing kids clothes, not wanting to sew for myself because that would mean taking measurements…….
I finally took the plunge into sewing for myself, but it just didn’t go well until I went on a course run by Sew to Grow on how to fit clothing to my specific shape and measurements, that I learned that there is NOTHING wrong with my body. I have a big booty and large boobs which both require adjustment in all patterns. Once I learned this, the world opened up – no more ‘wadders’ after trying different sizing!!!
So, if you’re like me and learning to fit clothes to yourself – hopefully this blog will open your eyes to your own perfectly proportioned body and come with me on a journey of making ALLL the beautiful clothes.
